I’ve officially started Sutton’s room update and let me tell you… this has been such a fun (and slightly chaotic) project so far. It’s all about creating a space that feels fresh and functional while still reflecting her personality. Here’s everything we’ve done so far in Phase 1 of this bedroom refresh, plus a few links in case you’re looking to tackle a similar project!

Fresh Paint: Walls, Ceiling, and Furniture
The first step in this makeover was giving the room a fresh coat of paint. Let me just say, I loathe painting. Like, truly… it’s a deep-seeded hate. At one point, I found myself staring blankly at the walls, completely disassociating, and before I knew it, I’d decided to paint the ceiling too. Was it an impulsive decision? Absolutely. Did it work out in the end? Thankfully, yes because I’m in love with how it turned out! I went with Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray for both the walls and ceiling, and the soft, serene vibe it creates is worth every moment of my painting-induced misery. It’s the perfect blend of gray and blue (per Sutton’s request), neutral enough to grow with her but still full of personality.
Next, I tackled her toy box and side table. For the toy box, I chose Benjamin Moore Flint, a deep, moody gray that adds a bit of contrast and that moodiness we love. The side table got a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Taos Taupe, a warm taupe that ties everything together beautifully. We are topping the side table with this cute rattan lamp.
The Big Pieces: New Bed & Rug
We said goodbye to her old bed and brought in the Winston Porter Neilius Upholstered Platform Bed. It’s simple, cozy, and comes with a washable slipcover—a win for both style and practicality (because kids & pets).
The rug might be my favorite addition so far. We went with this beauty, and it’s the perfect anchor for the room. The subtle pattern adds just enough interest without overpowering the space, and it’s incredibly soft underfoot. It’s perfect for all those cozy moments she spends playing on the floor.
Lighting Updates: Ceiling Light & Wall Sconce
The light fixtures in Sutton’s room aren’t actually a recent update. These are the ones we installed four years ago when we first purchased this house and updated all the lighting. Even now, they still look perfect for the vibe we were going for in her updated space. The ceiling light brings just the right amount of brightness, and the wall sconce, which was originally over a desk when our older daughter had this room, now works beautifully as an accent light over the toy storage.
Wrapping Up Sutton’s Room
This little sneak peak of Sutton’s room update has been so much fun to work on, and I’m loving how it’s all coming together. From fresh paint to updated furniture and little lighting details, she is already falling in love with her cozy little space. But there’s still more to do! Looking Ahead: The Bathroom Remodel

While the tile and plumbing selections have stayed the same, I’ve completely rethought a few decisions, like paint colors, wallpaper, and lighting, but the core aspects of the design remain unchanged. The goal is staying the same: creating a space that’s functional, beautiful, and fits our family’s needs. It’s shaping up to be an exciting project that I can’t wait to dive into. In the meantime, I’m focusing on wrapping up Sutton’s room and pulling together all the finishing touches to share it with you. Stay tuned… big things are happening!
